SMAK Sint Carolus Profile
Responding to the need for high school education in Bengkulu, SMA Sint Carolus was established on January 8, 1968. The name SMA Sint Carolus was inspired by Saint Charles Borromeo (Santo Carolus Borromeus), a Cardinal of Milan, Italy, who lived from 1538 to 1584. As a leader of the people in Milan, Charles Borromeo demonstrated profound compassion for the weak and suffering.
By adopting the name Sint Carolus, SMA Sint Carolus aims to provide educational services with the purpose of nurturing individuals who are intelligent, skilled, and empathetic toward those who are weak and suffering, embodying a spirit of compassion.
SMA Sint Carolus is the only Catholic-oriented high school in Bengkulu City that has achieved notable accomplishments and awards in both academic and non-academic fields. It is managed by the Sisters of the Charity of Saint Charles Borromeo. Many local graduates of SMA Sint Carolus have gone on to successful careers in government and in various industries, where they have made a significant impact.
In October 2008, SMA Sint Carolus was accredited by BAN-STN. The "BAN-STN" accreditation is a formal evaluation process by the National Accreditation Board for Schools (Badan Akreditasi Nasional - Sekolah/Taruna, or BAN-S/T) in Indonesia. This process assesses the quality and standards of educational institutions. SMA Sint Carolus in Bengkulu has been awarded an "A" rating for its accreditation in 2008 and 2013, indicating a high level of academic excellence. The school has received praise for maintaining this high standard despite challenges, such as post-earthquake conditions. The school's commitment to academic, moral, and religious education aligns with the values of the Tarakanita Foundation, which manages it.
